PACER-backed · all chapters

Search bankruptcy filings. PACER-backed, same day.

A bankruptcy search reveals active and historical bankruptcy filings against a debtor through PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records), the federal court system's electronic records database. Active filings (debtor currently in bankruptcy) and historical filings (debtor was in bankruptcy in the past 10 years) inform M&A due diligence, lender underwriting, and credit decisions. We search PACER same day.

FAQ

About the Bankruptcy Search Service.

What is PACER?
Public Access to Court Electronic Records. The federal court system's electronic records database. Covers all federal courts (district, appellate, bankruptcy). PACER has historically charged per-page fees; recent changes removed fees for most low-volume users.
How recent is the data?
Real-time. PACER updates with each court filing. New bankruptcy cases appear within hours of filing. Our search query returns the same data PACER would return to a public records request.
Does the search include state court bankruptcies?
No, US bankruptcy cases are all in federal court (Chapters 7, 11, 13, 12, 9). State courts handle related insolvency proceedings (receiverships, state-law assignments for benefit of creditors) but those are not bankruptcies.
What does 'discharged' mean?
The bankruptcy court issued a discharge order, releasing the debtor from personal liability for most pre-petition debts. The debtor is no longer legally obligated to pay discharged debts. Lien debts (UCC, tax, judgment) may survive.
What does 'dismissed' mean?
Case closed without discharge. Reasons: debtor failed to file required documents, debtor failed to attend creditor meetings, debtor failed to make plan payments. Dismissed bankruptcies do not provide discharge, so debts remain.
How long does a bankruptcy stay on record?
Bankruptcy court records are permanent. Credit bureaus report bankruptcies for 7-10 years. PACER records are searchable indefinitely. Our 10-year lookback covers the credit-relevant period.
