FAQ

Common questions.

LLC or sole proprietor?
For most consultants, LLC. The liability protection is meaningful, and the LLC can elect S-Corp tax treatment later. Sole prop is fine for $5k-of-revenue side projects.
When should I elect S-Corp?
Generally when net profit (after expenses, before owner pay) crosses $60,000 to $80,000 annually. Below that, the payroll complexity is not worth it.
Do I really need a separate business bank account?
Yes. Commingling personal and business funds can pierce the LLC liability shield in court. Plus your books are impossible to reconcile.
How do I price my services?
Pricing is a business decision; we do not advise on that. We do show profitability per client so you can see which engagements are profitable.
What about retainer agreements?
Engagement letter templates include monthly retainer, project-based, and hourly variants. Customize per client.
1099 contractors I hire?
Properly classified, 1099 is fine. We pay 1099 contractors through payroll, issue year-end 1099-NEC automatically.
International clients?
Many consultants have international clients. Foreign clients do not change your US tax obligations. Wire fees and FX matter; partner banks handle this.
What about LLC vs PLLC for licensed professionals?
Lawyers, accountants, doctors, therapists, architects often require PLLC in many states. For unlicensed consulting (strategy, marketing, technical), LLC is fine.
Multi-state clients?
Working remotely from one state with clients in many is generally fine. Physical presence (employees, office) in another state triggers foreign qualification.
Pricing?
$0 LLC formation. Growth plan ($99/month) includes books, CRM, payroll for the owner, e-signature, and full compliance.
