FAQ

Common questions.

USDOT vs MC number?
USDOT is the safety registration; every commercial vehicle in interstate commerce needs one. MC (Motor Carrier) is the operating authority; required for for-hire interstate carriers (not private fleets).
How long does MC authority take?
Typically 21 days from filing to approval. Faster authorities (like household goods) take longer.
What is IRP?
International Registration Plan. Lets a truck registered in your base state operate across all 48 contiguous states + DC + 10 Canadian provinces. Required for trucks over 26,000 lbs operating in multiple states.
What is IFTA?
International Fuel Tax Agreement. Quarterly tax filing where you report miles and fuel by jurisdiction. Eliminates the need to buy fuel permits state by state.
What is UCR?
Unified Carrier Registration. Annual fee for interstate carriers based on fleet size. Many states require UCR enrollment.
Insurance minimums?
General freight: $750,000. Household goods: $1M. Hazmat: $5M. Some shippers require higher.
Owner-operator vs lease-on?
Owner-operator has own authority. Lease-on uses a larger carrier authority. We handle both setups; the filings differ.
Freight broker?
Different authority (Property Broker). Requires BMC-84 surety bond or BMC-85 trust. We file the broker authority.
Multi-state taxes?
IFTA handles fuel tax across states. Apportioned IRP plates handle registration. Income tax in your base state.
Pricing?
$0 LLC formation. Federal registrations are $300 ($300 MC fee). Plus our $99 service fee per major filing.
